Guitars • Pickup modding question for Uncle E

Just thought I’d shout-out to you directly as u work in the pickup biz.

So , I’m thinking of doing a lil pickup mod project and have a few Q’s for ya.

I got a pair of cheapie Chinese HBs.( prob ceramic mags (they measure 7-8 Kohms DC tho.. which is weird ) but anyway onwards

I also got a busted up Epiphone pro bucker I previously destroyed with a scewdriver (lol) - broken coils only. These HBs have decent alnico mags I believe…

So my idea is to take the slugs out of ProBuckers and put into cheap MiC buckers if they are same sized diameter slugs. (??) so I end up with an upgraded cheapie pickup(s).
I know the coil winding will be different etc but that’s my theory anyway re upgrade.

Questions are
- is it possible ( I reckon so if size is ok)
- is it hard to do & worth the hassle
- how will I know which polarity the slugs go into the bobbins when I switch ? Will that matter and can I mess it up that way - re North / South alignment inside the bucker, - I thinking I’ll mark them off with a red and black marker or something for N & S sides of the slugs.
