I've been thinking for a good few years now that someone really needs to make a standalone Bitwig synth.
I know other people have thought about it as well.
What I was thinking was something that looks a bit like a Behringer MonoPoly with its Keybed and then a tilt up control unit on a kick stand that can fold into the bed.
As a prototype we could use something like a Microsoft Surface as the brains of the unit, and maybe also something like an integrated Novation Launch Control to provide lots of knobs and mixing faders.
If we used the iRig Multimedia i/o 49 as the basis for the keybed then we also get transport controls, some drum pads and a built in audio interface as well. Maybe we could even bundle in a CV interface like the midimuso CV-12.
Stick the whole thing in a nice box with some nice metal panels and teak sides with a solid built-in power supply and expose all the i/o on the back. Could be quite good. Make it look like a Prophet.
We could also have some hard buttons as well as the display touch interface to pull up various UI or utilities like Signalizer or whatever makes sense.
Personally I would love to have something like this. It could define a whole new space for synths that bridge between analogue, digital, DAW and DAWless.
Potential for other Bitwig gear as well of course.
Thoughts? I wonder if anyone would be up for giving it a go. Maybe we could do a Kickstarter or something.
