Just wanted to share some knowledge recently acquired through the school of hard knocks. I use Cubase so this could be different for other DAW’s.
So my Presonus FaderPort v1 started having issues, moving fader broke so I figured time for an upgrade. Ordered Faderport v2, installed and realized control is different. If you are working on say track 2 and then mouse click track 12, the controller is still on channel 2 and you have to use the controller to manually scroll to track 12 to be able to use the fader. I thought I was having an issue but after a bunch of back and forth with Presonus and forums here is the issue:
Controllers come in two driver flavors, Native drivers and Mackie Control(an established daw protocol) that most controllers use nowadays.
Faderport v1 had native drivers and the Mackie control as optional. Faderport v2 has only Mackie Control compatibility. So only banks of 8 channels are controllable at a time if mouse clicking around. Anything outside of 8 needs to be scrolled to using the controller itself, not mouse.
Icon Nano and SSL also use Mackie control. Behringher too. If anyone knows of any single channel fader controller that has Native software drivers without using Mackie control I’d be interested.
