This use case is basically the same as recording external audio. I am in arrange view and recording 16 tracks of MIDI at once from an external sequencer, which results in a fairly long composition of 5-6 minutes usually. I adjust the sequencers sync for latency but it can be dodgy/inconsistent per session and is always a hassle to worry about so I usually just accept it with audio and drag onto the grid after.
With Audio in BW I can select all and drag it onto the grid at the same time. Is this the same with MIDI?
I have not had a chance to try it in BW with a sequencer yet and just wanted to get an understanding there so I know what to expect.
I know you can select the space between the grid line and note and it shows you the ms, which is awesome. But instead of typing that in to shift, I'd rather have the notes visually tighter to the grid so it is easier to edit.
Hopefully this makes sense. Probably anyone recording external midi knows the slight hassle here..lol.
I should add that I do not want to quantize, or this would be a non issue. One reason I use the sequencer is to generate more feel to the sequence with microtimings..etc. I basically just want it so my kicks are hitting on the grid since I keep them straight, and to pull everything else along with them. This also helps me with ghost kick sidechaining as well.
